The Spiral Goddess Collective Care Fund (SGCCF) is based upon the mission and vision Culture and Movement and the Spiral Goddess Collective, a Center for Mind/BodyMovement (SGC).
SGCCF Mission: To provide members of our community, especially women and queer folx (ages 15+) with free, need-based opportunities for embodied movement toward mind/body/spirit healing and transformation through yoga and conscious dance. The SGCCFs projects include free classes, workshops, and retreats as well as small-scale, need-based grants for marginalized community members to access teacher-training opportunities to help grow yoga and dance offerings in our community.
SGCCF Vision: The SGCCF’s vision is based upon the power of yoga and conscious dance to heal and transform minds and bodies and to nourish spiritual growth and exploration. We believe that opportunities for healing through embodied, conscious movement—specifically yoga and conscious dance—should not be limited to those who can afford the privilege to attend classes and that fewer opportunities to access these healing modalities exist in central Maine and rural areas of Maine.
We recognize that financial challenges are not the only factor that inhibits healing through embodied movement, and that child care, transportation, food insecurity, lack of family support, trauma, low self-esteem, and fear can also limit access to healing modalities like yoga and conscious dance.
While the SGCCF cannot remove all barriers, we have a vision of access, accommodation, mutual support, and radical care, and we aim to connect members of our community to the resources they need to heal and grow through yoga and dance. Our model is inspired by Shelly Tygielski’s Pandemic of Love mutual-aid programs, aiming to create a “symbiotic ecosystem” of connection and collaboration, recognizing that “everyone in the community has something they need and something to offer.”

How to Support the SGCCF:
If you vibe with our mission and vision and you are a person who can afford to take classes and engage in yoga and conscious dance, the SGC encourages you to become a sponsor to support wider access to yoga and dance classes for members of our Maine communities who are in need of support for healing and transformation through yoga and conscious dance. Anyone can purchase a Spiral Punch Card or become a Sponsoring Member, both of which directly fund free classes for SGCCF applicants. Special events are also offered for a $10 drop-in rate that goes directly to the SGCCF. Sponsors can also provide a higher level of support through contributing to small-scale, need-based grants for women to access teacher-training opportunities to help grow yoga and dance offerings in our Maine communities. Sponsorship opportunities are contingent upon applications for SGCCF support for teacher trainings. In other words, please let us know you want to sponsor a teacher-in-training and we will match you with a person in need of support. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please fill out this form [coming soon] and we will contact you. |
