At The Spiral Goddess Collective we offer a variety of dance programs that move our bodies in ways that feel good physically, mentally, and emotionally. We dance to know ourselves better. We dance to feel joy and to release what no longer serves us. We dance to feel connected to ourselves and to the world around us. We dance to access our emotions and to discover our power and purpose. We dance because life is too short not to dance!
“… no freedom without dancing.”
~Janelle Monáe, The 10 Droid Commandments “If I can't dance - I don't want to be part of your revolution.” ~Emma Goldman (1869-1914) “While I dance I cannot judge, I cannot hate, I cannot separate myself from life. I can only be joyful and whole. That is why I dance.” ~Hans Bos quoted in The Crescent Moon, 1995 “To perform belly dancing, it does not matter whether a woman is young or old, fat or thin, socially integrated or marginal. Belly dancing is not a competition—competing is not part of its nature. This dance form is more than just a dance. Only a woman’s life experience and sensuality can lend it both meaning and true depth.” ~Rosina-Fawzia Al-Rawi, Grandmother’s Secrets: The Ancient Rituals and Healing Power of Belly Dancing “Now I walk in rhythmic patterns Count beats to beat match the measures of Old school pop with urban street hip-hop And adjust my pulse accordingly” ~ "This DJ," By Shaden Tavakoli (Lady Sha) “Energy moves in waves. Waves move in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms. A human being is just that, energy, waves, patterns, rhythms. Nothing more. Nothing less. A dance.” ~Gabrielle Roth, creator of 5 Rhythms “The formula is simple: submission to the music, allowing it to guide and direct, equals dancing.” ~Jorge "Popmaster Fabel" Pabon |
While some forms of dance are based upon performance and learning steps and routines, the dance programs we offer are quite the opposite! Rather than emphasizing how we look, we emphasize how we feel. We dance without mirrors so that we can focus on our internal experience and let go of judgment of ourselves and others.
Free form dance has no choreography to follow and minimal guidance. The music drives the experience where participants are encouraged to move in whatever way suits them.
Whatever Moves You is fun and funky! We also offer opportunities for free form dance during special events like CommuniTea, Embodied Movement Through Transformation, and other workshops. |
Dance fitness offers a cardio workout through easy-to-follow choreography. This form of dance is not about learning the steps; it's about a fun way to build cardiovascular endurance, strength, and coordination.
Cardio Dance & Pump provides structure and freedom and a little extra strength work using resistance bands. Kukuwa Dance Fitness is an African-inspired dance program that will have you smiling and sweating! |
While any kind of dance can be conscious, this term is used to describe movement practices that emphasize embodiment, exploration, emotional processing, and a somatic approach.
JourneyDance is a guided movement experience that flows through a variety of music and helps us access joy, freedom, curiosity, self-expression, and so much more. We release what no longer serves us and tap into our personal and collective power. Spiral Flow Dance and Evolve! also offer opportunities for conscious dance. |
What is Somatic Movement? a conscious practice (like yoga and dance) that focuses on the body's internal experience and sensations, rather than the end result or external experience. Somatic movement increases flexibility and mobility, relieves pain, improves posture, releases muscular tension, helps us let go of stress, reduces anxiety, provides a mood boost, and helps us feel more relaxed.
