A 90 minute class filled with practices to awaken the nervous system through breathing techniques and yoga postures that align our bodies and minds, while giving students the power and knowledge of what their own bodies are capable of through breath. We will be exploring our breath through ancient Pranayama (breath) yoga techniques and yoga postures as well as five Tibetan rights, which is a sequence of postures that the Tibetan monks perform for health and vitality. This is an all levels class and there will be modifications to meet each participant where they are. Pranayama breath work is a very powerful modality that can increase vitality, health, and mental clarity. Hiking Yoga Downtown Bangor Enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown Bangor as we combine a moderate to easy urban “hike” with accessible yoga at a variety of locations. Enjoy breath and movement and social connections, rain or shine. Hiking Yoga is a free community program. Donations are always welcomed to support our scholarship program. We meet at 16 State St. No mat and no experience required! JourneyDance™ Experience the power of movement and music as they merge into a beautiful alchemy of healing and embodiment. JourneyDance is a transformative movement practice that invites you to connect with your body, heart, and spirit in a whole new way. With its unique blend of guided movement, music, and visualization, JourneyDance is not about learning steps, it’s about revealing, recovering, and re-discovering your natural intuitive movement, letting go of inhibitions, and tapping into your authenticity. Through this dynamic and exhilarating process, you are able to release negative energy and stuck emotions, access your inner wisdom, and cultivate a deeper connection with yourself and others. JourneyDance is not just a physical workout, but a soulful journey that leads you to a greater sense of freedom, joy, and self-discovery. Rest, Relax, Renew: Yoga Mini-Retreat Overwhelmed? Exhausted? Giving too much of yourself to the care of others? Counteract the physical, mental, and emotional impacts of “grind culture” and treat yourself to an opportunity to reconnect to your mind/body/spirit through gentle, slow flow, restorative yoga. Experience what it feels like to be supported and cared for in the synergy of a collective healing space. Recalibrate your nervous system and release what you no longer need to carry. Heal your whole self. Rest is crucial to our ability to live our best lives, to show up for ourselves and others, to respond rather than react to the world around us. When we allow ourselves to relax, we are renewed and resourced. As Tricia Hersey writes in Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto, “Rest is a healing portal to our deepest selves. Rest is care. Rest is radical.” Spiral Flow Yoga An invigorating, gentle, and restorative practice that counters the debilitating impacts of our toxic culture on our mind/body/spirit. We open our hearts, lengthen our spines, expand our lung capacity, tap into our vagus nerve, build strength and resilience, relieve tension in the upper and lower back and neck, improve mental and physical flexibility, and reset our nervous system. A trauma-informed approach encourages each of us to do what feels best in our bodies at each moment of our practice, emerging renewed, rejuvenated, embodied, and resourced. Tea & Transformative Talk An informal pay-what-you-can gathering. Drink tea, tour the space, meet new people... talk about ways we can transform ourselves, our community, and our world! Vinyasa+ Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic, movement-oriented yoga practice emphasizing the connection between mind, body, and breath. This class offers a 45-minute active vinyasa flow followed by a calming, restorative practice that will reset the nervous system, helping us to recover from the stresses of life and build more resilience. Vinyasa Flow Yoga Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic, movement-oriented yoga practice emphasizing the connection between mind, body, and breath. Like other forms of yoga asana (physical practice), regular vinyasa practice functions to prepare the body and mind for the deeper yogic practice of meditation. In vinyasa yoga, no two classes are ever truly the same, but each practice will have the following basic components: centering (including intention setting and breath work), a thorough warm up sequence, standing flow, balancing postures, seated sequence postures, back bends, inversions, savasana (final relaxation), closing meditation, while the order/flow of practice varies, classes are sequenced to help ensure everyone has a fulfilling and safe practice. Whatever Moves You (free dance!) Start the week with Joy in Movement and dance like no one's watching! After an invigorating four flights of stairs, we will engage in 55 minutes of free movement (with occasional ideas offered) to an eclectic bunch of music that will inspire us to move our body/mind, heart, and soul. A brief closing circle will conclude this collective movement experience and invigorate you for the rest of your day and week. $5 Drop-in. All the proceeds from this class go directly to The Spiral Goddess Collective Care Fund Scholarship Program. |
Spiral Goddess Collective Community Care Agreement
We welcome all members of our community to participate in our programs as long as they respect our guiding principles, which include respect for ourselves, our space, and our community.
Anyone new to The SGC—your first class is free (from our weekly class offerings). No one will be turned away based upon their inability to pay; however, the SGC does have rent to pay so please pay what you can to help keep the doors open and to help us serve as many community members as possible. We also offer scholarships for free classes and workshops as well as sponsor-based memberships that help to fund the Spiral Goddess Collective Care Fund (SGCCF) scholarship.
Do what feels good to your mind/body in each moments and be respectful of other people's space and experience and what we each bring into this collective space.
Practice letting go of competition—with yourself and with others. Please don't hurt yourself doing something just because the teacher/guide or other participants are doing it. You know your body and your abilities, when you can push and when you need to pull back.
This is a "brave space." Everything we do is an invitation to engage or to choose a different option. We make our own decisions—how we move, how we breathe. When is the floor the best place to be and when is standing or sitting a better option? Do we want to move or find stillness? The teacher/guide/curator gives us a container for our experience—suggestions, options, variations—from here, we each create our own experience. Sometimes we have to ask for what we need.
Understand that we each approach every moment, every element, every movement, from our own experiences. No way is right. No way is wrong. We are diverse, complicated, unique beings who co-create our inclusive space and our individual and collective experience.
Healing is not easy. It is not a linear process, and it looks different for each of us.
Be easy on yourself and others. In this space we let go of judgment, of ourselves and of other people. Sometimes we are our harshest critics. At The SGC we give ourselves permission to shed the negative self-talk, to be easy on ourselves and have self-compassion. Our space lacks mirrors, so we focus on our internal experience rather than what we look like at any given moment.
We offer practices because we are always growing and evolving. We are not striving for perfection; we are embracing process and exploration. What we practice here resonates out into the world. In this space, we counter the trauma, injustice, and power-over practices of the world by engaging our minds/bodies, empowering ourselves to make the best decisions for ourselves in each moment, and connecting with other people through authentic movement.

Center for Mind/Body Movement Policies
No street shoes are allowed in the space. In fact, please leave them at the bottom of the stairs when you enter the building. If you need to wear shoes for any reason, please wear indoor shoes.
Please try to arrive 10 minutes before a class starts. This gives you time to check in, settle in, and to touch base with the teacher/guide. But, we understand that sometimes it is a struggle to be on time... sometimes we're running late too! So, if you arrive late or need to leave early, please do your best to quietly enter or exit the space.
In order to preserve the integrity of our sacred space and the atmosphere of relaxation, rejuvenation, personal exploration, and healing, weekly classes (Yoga and JourneyDance) are for adults 15 years and older. Exceptions apply. Please inquire.
Some events are open to children attending with an adult. If your child is attending an event with you at The Spiral Goddess Collective, please be sure to have a conversation with them about the sacred space and the expectations for how to share the space with everyone present.
Our space is purposely curated to be diverse and thought-provoking. There are tools for mind/body/spirit self-care and there are works of art to discuss. If you have any questions, please just ask!
The SGC space is available for Special Events and Rentals, guided and curated or not. For more information, please contact thespiralgoddesscollective@gmail.com.
